Turnabout was fair play for the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Thursday.

After surrendering 13 hits in a setback to the Clinton Lumberkings the previous night, the Kernels pounded out 13 hits of thier own Thursday in a 10-3 Midwest League baseball victory.

Blake Balkcom went 3 for 3 with a homer for the winners, while Brandon Wood belted a home run and double.

Howard Kendrick added a 3 for 5 plate performance with a double.

Ian Kinlser was the lone Lumberking to get two hits. he had a double among his totals.

Cedar Rapids struck for one run in the first inning when Wood doubled to left field, scoring Kendrick.

The Kernels erupted for seven runs in the third, with Wood's grand slam homer to left accounting for four runs.

Aaron Peel added a three run shot to left later in the frame.

Cedar Rapids pushed its lead to 10-0 in the sixth inning. Balkcom had a homer to left and Kendrick hit a double to score Quan Cosby.

Clintn got two runs in the seventh inning. With two outs Josh Kreuzer singled to center field and went to second when Brock Jacobsen hit a single to left. Emerson Frostad plated both runners with a double to center.

In the eighth, Kinsler doubled to right with one out. He later went to third on Juan Senreiso's single to left and scored when Andrew Wishy hit a single to right.

Starting pitcher Kevin Jepsen (1-1) earned the win for the Kernels giving up two hits and fanning five in six innings. Edison Volquez (0-1) did not make it out of the third inning for Clinton as he suffered the loss.

Clinton plays it's home opener tonight when Dayton visits Alliant Energy Field. Game time is 6pm.
