Beloit Daily News

Two errors led to three unearned runs in the sixth inning as Fort Wayne snapped a 1-1 tie and edged the Beloit Snappers, 4-1. The Snappers slipped to 5-6 for the season while the slow starting Wizards improved to 3-8. The teams split the series two games apiece.

Beloit took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Manuel Ramirez knocked in Adam Heether with a double. That was the only run allowed by Eddie Bonine (1-1) in six innings of work. He scattered seven hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out nine.

Beloit starter Dana Eveland also went six innings, allowing five hits, no walks and eight strikeouts. But Jordan Pickens smacked a homer over the short porch in right to tie the game.

The Wizards had two outs in the seventh inning and Drew Macias at second base when Peeter Ramos hit a ground ball to third baseman Heether. Instead of tagging Macias coming into third, Heether elected to throw to first and the ball was dropped by Manuel Ramirez. Brian Wahlbrink followed with a double off the wall in right field, scoring Macias and Ramos. On the relay to the plate, second baseman Guilder Rodriguez threw wildly and the ball went into the dugout, allowing Wahlbrink to also score.

Beloit reliever Greg Moreira worked two scoreless innings, The Wizards used three relievers, Jake Upwood, Ryan Klatt and Aaron Coonrod, pitching an inning apiece. They didn't allow a single baserunner.

Heether was the only Snapper with two hits, going 2 for 3. Ramos was 2 for 4 with a run scored and Greg Bochy 2 for 3 to lead Fort Wayne.

Notes-Beloit pitching coach Rick Sauveur and outfielder Terry Trofholz were both ejected. Beloit struck out 12 times. The Snappers open a four game series in Lansing tonight (6:05pm). They return to Beloit to host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 4pm Saturday.
