Kane County at Peoria

April 21st, 2004

The Cougars offense exploded for 14 runs today, the most this year. Which is the most runs we have score since last May, when we also scored 14 runs in a win. The big story was the great pitching of Jose Corchado and Brigmer Leon.

Corchado started and went seven innings, the first hit he would give up would be a homer in the second with one out. After that he didn't give up another hit untill the sixth, then another one in the seventh. Jose walked a batter in the first and second, after that he retired 12 in a row. Corchado also struck out eight Chiefs, which is the most this season for him. Brigmer Leon went the eighth inning and yes he gave up two hits with one out, but he got out of it with a strike out and a fly out.

The Cougars scored very early and very often, In the first inning Brian Ingram lead off another game with a extra base hit, this time a triple to right. Luke Appert would ground out to second, on the play Ingram would score. With one out in the third Ingram was hit by a pitch, then stole second base. Appert would walk. Brian Snyder then hit a three run homer to right. Eddie Kim would ground out. David Harriman then walked. Dustin Majewki would double to right. On the play third base coach/manager Dave Joppie waved Harriman around to score, but he would be caught in a run down for the final out of the inning.

Meanwhile the Chiefs would score their only run of the game against Corchado in the second. John Santor hit a solo homer to left field. That would be his second career homer against the Cougars, he had one late last year against Derell McCall.

Moving along in the mauling of the Chiefs, The Cougars would score three more runs in the fourth inning. Trevor Brown led off with a single to right, he would move to second on a wild pitch. Chris Tritle walked. Luis Perez would fly to right for the first out. Ingram then walked to load the bases. Appert would strike out. Snyder singled to center to score Brown and Tritle. Kim would single to center to score Ingram. Harriman walked. Dustin Majewski then hit a pop up foul to the left side the shortstop Brenden Ryan made a nice inning ending catch.

With two outs in the fifth Luis Perez hit a solo homer to left for his first of the season. In the sixth Appert led off with a single to right that just missed going out. Snyder would ground to the shortstop, who would throw to second for the force. The only problem is that Ryan threw the ball into center. Kim doubled off the wall in right to score Appert. Harriman would then strikeout. The Chiefs made a pitching change, which didnt help much since the reliever walked the first man he saw to load the bases. Brown the reached on a fielder's choice, on the play Snyder would score and Majewski would be out at second after getting the free pass.

Kane County lit up the scoreboard in the ninth with four more runs, the only problem was that it was off of one of the Chiefs outfielders who had just come in to pitch. With one out Brown walked. Vasili Spanos made his first appearance of the year as a pitch hitter for Tritle. He doubled to left. Perez singled to short to score Brown. Ingram caped off the scoring with a three run homer to right.

The only negative out of this game was the way Adiel Sanchez pitched. I will say this he pitched better than he did yesterday when he faced one batter and gave up an infield single. John Santor walked to led things off. Tyler Parker would ground one to third, Snyder's throw to first went into right field, both runners would move up another base. Matt Dryer singled to center to score both Santor and Parker. Matt Pagnozzi grounded out to second for the first out. Kyle Boyer walked on four pitches. Sanchez then settled down a little and got the final two hitters to end the game.
