Battle Creek Enquirer

Peoria pounded the visiting Michigan Battle Cats 9-0 Friday night in a Midwest League action.

The Cats got just one hit as the Western Division leading Chiefs improved to 20-6, the best record in professional baseball.

The Eastern Division leading Cats fell to 18-10. Game 3 of the four games series is tonight.

Peoria starter Tyler Johnson (4-0) baffled the Cats. Brooks Conrad was credited with the only hit when his batted ball hit baserunner Kerry Hodges between first and second base.

Cats starter Anthony Pluta (1-4) left the game with no outs in the fourth. He gave up seven earned runs, six hits and three walks. He hit one batter and had no strikeout. His ERA is now 11.86.

The Chiefs scored one run in the first, one in the second, three in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth.
