Kane County Cougars at Beloit Snappers

May 9th, 2004
Game 2

Steve Bondurant pitched another gem of a game, this time a three hit complete game shutout. After a walk in the fifth he retired the last seven in a row. The walk would be retired on a double play. Steve only got into trouble twice, in the first giving up a two out triple to Vinny Rottino. He would get Lou Palmasiano on strikes to end that threat. In the fourth Rottino came up again and got a one out double. A ground out and a fly out would take care of that inning.

Since in the first game of the double header the seven innings were like a regular game seven inning with the Cougars really not doing much offensivley, they took the liberty of thinking the second game was just a continuation of the first, and scorched the Snappers for six runs in the second and two more runs in the third. That would be all that they would need to pull off a split of the first double header of the year for them.

The second inning was lead off by Dustin Majewski, who doubled to left. Vasili Spanos then singled to center to bring home Majewski. Spanos lumbered over to second on the throw. Kory Wayment walked. Chris Tritle then reached on a fielder's choice, on the play Wayment would be out at second. Brian Ingram walked, which would load the bases. Luis Perez blooped one near the right field line to score Spanos. David Castillo singled to left, that would score Tritle and Ingram. Castillo got to second on the throw home. Eddie Kim then grounded out to second, on the play Perez would come home. Brian Snyder walked, which would put runners on the corners and two outs. Majewski came back up to the plate and singled to center to score Castillo. Spanos struck out to end the inning.

The third inning would see the Cougars score twice more. With two outs, Ingram singled to left. Perez then singled to right, Ingram went to thrid on the play. A wild pitch would allow Perez to get to second. Castillo walked to load the bases. Eddie Kim singled to center to score Ingram and Perez.

Notes-unlike in yesterdays game were home plate ump and ex major league ump Bob Davidson made a horrible home run call on a foul ball. This time when the Snappers hit one over there in the same place, and yes it was foul again. This time after he made the foul call, he yelled at Cougars manager Dave Joppie and made sure he knew it was foul.
