Kane County Cougars at Beloit Snappers

May 10th, 2004

A split on the road is what every team shoots for on every road series, that exactly what the Cougars got from tonights game. It's just us fans want to beat Beloit really badly. Brad Knox pitched well in getting the win.

He went the first six innings, giving up five hits and one homerun. Brad walked one and struck out five. The one run came in the first inning, Guilder Rodriguez lead things off with a single to short. Terry Trofholz struck out. Drew Anderson would then double to right to score Rodriguez. Lou Palmasiano would line into a double play to end the inning.

After that the Snappers really didnt get to Knox. In the second inning they had three runners, but none would get past second base. One would be out on a fielder's choice.

Vasili Spanos would be the offense early, as he hit a leadoff homer in the third inning, for his third of the year. The other Cougar run would come in the sixth, with one out. David Castillo knocked one over that bounced over the third basemans head for a double down the line. One out later Brian Snyder singled to center to score Castillo.

That wouldn't be the only time the Cougars would threaten to break the game open. In the fifth inning with two outs, Nick Rogers walked. He would steal second then get balked to third. Brian Ingram grounded out to second to end the inning, he almost beat the throw.

The bullpen did a nice job especially in the eighth inning. Rodriguez leadoff with a double to left. Trofholz grounded out to short. The Cougars then made a pitching change to bring in Jairo Garcia to replace J.R. Pickens. Anderson then flied out to right, on the play Rodriguez tagged up and went to third. Palmasiano then grounded out to short to end the inning.

Beloit had Chris Capuano start for them on a major league rehab assignment. The last time he pitched in our league was 2000 with South Bend. He pitched against us on August 10th of that year. Going six innings, giving up four hits and three runs. He walked four and struck out six. Capuano would get the loss to go to 6-4 on the season. Tonight he went three and two thirds innings, giving up three hits and one run. He didin't walk anyone and struck out four. He threw 51 pitches, 32 for strikes.
