John Draper has had an excellent view of the recent strong outings by Burlington Bees pitchers.

"They're throwing strikes, making opponents hit the ball," the Bees catcher said, "That's the key, throwing strikes. They're pitching the way they are capable of pitching."

The Bees allowed their first earned runs in the last three nights in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Lansing Lugnuts in a Class A Midwest League game at Community Field.

Burlington (30-28) has won the last three games after losing the first two of this eight game homestand. Three Bees pitchers combined on a 9-0 shutout of West Michigan Monday night, and all of the WhiteCaps' runs were unearned in the Bees' 4-3 win Tuesday.

Kyle Middleton (5-2), the winning pitcher in Wednesday's game, scattered five hits over six innings and allowed just two runs, one earned. Rick Zary allowed one run in two innings, and Barry Armitage struck out the side in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.

"Middleton did a good job, Zary picked up where he left off and Armitage did another great job," Bees manager Joe Szekely said. "Pitching is like anything, it goes in spurts. Right now, we're getting good pitching."

Chris Fallon's triple in the fourth inning brough in Odannys Ayala to snap a 1-1 tie. Fallon later scored on an error and Draper brought in the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

The Bees had an answer to whatever the Lugnuts did.

Lansing's Brad Bouras had a one out home run in the seventh inning, but the Bees came back in the bottom of the inning with a home run from Jonathan Guzman.

"Anytime you can score, it can stop or slow the other team's momentum," Szekeley said, "We did that a couple of times tonight and kept them from taking the lead"

After Bouras home run. Zary retired five of the next six hitters he faced, then Armitage struck out Antoine Cameron, Mike Mallory and Bouras to end the game.

"We're doing all of the little things right now," Szekely said, "All of those things add up.
