Kane County Cougars at Beloit Snappers

June 26th, 2004

Scoring six runs in the first three innings and two more runs in the final six innings is a great way to help get a win.

Chris Dunwell started for the Cougars and pitched eight innings of four hit ball. He walked one and struck out ten. Only one runner got to third against him. It was the sixth inning, with one out. Two singles and a fly out, resulted in runners on the corners and two outs. Dunwell would then strike out Vinny Rottino to get out of it. Chris would retire the final eight in a row.

The Cougars would score early and often in the first three innings. In the first inning it was two runs. Brian Ingram led off the game with a walk. One out later David Castillo doubled down the line in left to score Ingram. Vasili Spanos would then single up the middle to allow Castillo to come around and score. Brian Snyder then singled to right. Dustin Majewski would ground into an inning ending double play.

With two outs in the second inning the Cougars were at it again. Chris Tritle would single to left, then steal second. Ingram followed that with a double to right to score Tritle. Luke Appert singled to right to score Ingram.

Two more runs in the third inning for the Cougars. With one out Snyder singled to left. Majewski then singled to right. One out later, Eddie Kim doubled to left to score both Snyder and Majewski to give the Cougars a four run lead.

One out in the fifth the Cougars would strike again. Majewski walked, then stole second. Kory Wayment would be out on strikes, but the catcher had to throw the ball to first to get the out, because it was a droped third strike. Majewski would get to third on the play. After that a wild pitch would score him.

Chris Tritle walked to led off the eighth inning. He would end up on third after two wild pitches. Brian Ingram walked. A pitching change really wouldnt matter as Tim Dillard walked Luke Appert to load the bases. David Castillo was then called out of strikes for the first out. Spanos flew out to right, on the play Tritle tagged up and scored.Dillard struck out Snyder to get out of the inning without further damage.

Manny Rodriguez came in for the ninth inning and somehow caught the Almonte Syndrome. Drew Anderson led off with a single to right. A wild pitch moved him to second. Lou Palmasiano then singled to second. Thankfully Vinny Rottino lined into a double play for the first two outs. Robby Deevers then grounded out to short to end the game.
