On paper, Madison pitcher Stacy Hollins doesn't have mind-boggling statistics; he was just 7-5 going into the Muskies' Wednesday night Midwest League contest with the Springfield Cardinals.

However, Hollins struck out 10, walked just one and ho hit the Cardinals in a 3-0 masterpiece at Madison's Warner Park.

"I was nervous as hell when I went out for the ninth," Hollins said after his performance was added to the record books. "They (Springfield) have a team full of hitters. I tried to make them hit my pitch."

The Cardinals threatended in the seventh inning, thanks to two errors by Vincente Francisco putting Springfield runners on first and second. However, Hollins managed to strike out the side to get out of the jam.

The closest the Cardinals got to stopping the no hitter was in the top of the eighth, when catcher Juan Ballara hit a chopper off Hollins' glove that Francisco charged and was able to beat Ballara by a split second.

Going into Wednesday's contest, Hollins held team highs in hits allowed (86), runs (65), earned runs (54), home runs allowed (14) and opponents' batting average (.292). in 73 innings. But that didn't deter the 20 year old.

"I wasn't worried about blowing it," said Hollins, who thre a five inning hitless game in 1991 for San Jacinto Junior College (Texas). "You can't throw no hitters all the time."

Madison got all three of it's runs in the fifth, highlighted by a Creighton Gubanich double that drove in two runs.

Springfield pitcher Dave Oehrlein took the loss to fall to 1-3, walking two, striking out six and giving up two earned runs.
