Kane County Cougars at Battle Creek Yankees

August 20th, 2004

A six run inning by the Yankees would help the Ceral City Bombers to beat the Cougars 9-1. The Cougars just couldnt get anyone out, as the Yanks offense just was too much.

The first three innings would be quiet, then all hell would break loose on the scoreboard. In the fourth inning, Enrique Cruz led off with a single to left. Hector Made then grounded one to second. The Cougars tried to get the force on Cruz, but shortstop Kory Wayment droped the ball. Erol Andros singled to right to load the bases. Jon Urick would hit a homer foul, then ground out to short. On the play it coulda been a double play but Wayment bobbled it. Cruz would score from third. Matt Carson then struck out looking. Willie Vasquez flew out to left to end the inning.

The fifth inning was a disaster. The Cougars gave up six runs. Jason Van Meetren led off with a single to right.Tommy Rojas then singled to center. Rafael Rodriguez would bunted them over into scoring position. Cruz singled to left to score Meetren. Made singled to center to center to score Rojas. Both runners stole a base and moved up and into scoring position. The Cougars intentioanlly walked Andruz to load the bases. Urick then struck out for the second out. Matt Carson would hit a grand slam to left field.

Battle Creek scored twice more in the sixth inning. Van Meetren singled to right. One out later, Rodriguez doubled to center. Cruz would double to left to score both Mettren and Rodriguez.

The Cougars did score one run, but two double plays off of putting runners in motion killed the Cougars. In the sixth inning, Kory Wayment led off with a walk. Rogers reached on an error by the right fielder. A double play would cut down Wayment, and hitter Luke Appert. Rogers moved to third on a wild pitch. David Castillo was hit by a pitch. Eddie Kim grounded one to short, the shortstop couldnt handle the ball and Rogers would score. Brian Snyder lined into an inning ending double play.
