Dayton Daily News

If there is one positive for the Dayton Dragons, it is that they will not have to play the Fort Wayne Wizards again until late June.

That still might be too soon.

Fort Wayne capped a season opening seven game series against Dayton with it's sixth straight win, a 5-3 decision Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. The Wizards scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to snap a 3-3 tie.

The frustration of losing became too much for Dragons manager Donnie Scott, who was ejected in the fourth inning. After being tossed, Soctt lifted third base off it's post and tossed it into left field.

Defense cost Dayton as it committed three errors that led to three unearned runs. Fort Wayne jumped on top with two runs in the second after Dayton shortstop Wandel Campana dropped a two out infield popup.

Dan Gooris (2-1) pitched a scoreless eighth for the Wizards to take the win. Gorky Batista, 0-2 took the loss for the Dragons.

Batista, who relieved Dayton starter Daylan Childress in the sixth, allowed two runs, one earned, in three innings on four hits and five walks. He struck out five and hit a batter.
