The Clinton Lumberkings staged a ninth inning rally to win their home opener Saturday, slipping past the Cedar Rapids Kernels 7-6, at Alliant Energy Field.
The Kernels were nursing a 6-5 lead in the ninth when Craig Kerner singled with one out to start the rally. After a walk and a flyout, Josh Labandeira lined a single to left to score Kerner and tie the game. On the next pitch, Dominick Ambrosini singled to center to drive in Danny Rombley with the winning run.
Mark O'Sullivan (0-2) pitched the ninth and took the loss for the Kernels (6-3)
Cedar Rapids took the lead in the fourth, 5-4 on a Jeff Mathis run scoring single and a two run double by Mike Napoli. Nick Gorneault hit a solo home run in the fifth to make it 6-4.
