Cougars Use Fielder To Stir Turtle soup

The offense has come alive again, this time they scored seven runs and yesterday they scored six runs. This is all after they only were scoring one or two runs during the final six games of the home stand. Oh well the Cougars are 9-1 and are riding a six game winning streak.

Eventhough Beloit scored first in their half of the first inning off of starter Bill Murphy. The lone run came on a solo homer by the second place hitter, Callix Crabbie. The ball went over the Beloit Floral sign in left centerfield. The next hitter, Mark Ernster struck out.

Murphy threw five innings. He gave up four hits and two runs. Only one of those runs were earned. Murphy also walked one and struck out seven.

The Cougars scored three runs in the second inning. John Baker lead off the inning with a double to right. Nelson Cruz struck out. Brian Stavisky then popped one up on the infield, the third basemanErnster dropped the ball, looking straight into the sun. Jason Basil doubled to right to score Baker to tie the game. Francis Gomez then grounded out to short, on the play Stavisky would score to give the Cougars the lead. Nick Rogers singled to center to score Basil.

Beloit cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning, Jeff Eure struck out to lead things off. Mario Mendez then reached on a strike three, wild pitch. Nic Carter then walked. Josh Murray lined one off of pitcher Murphy. Who threw to second baseman Francis Gomez. Gomez dropped the ball. The Cougars were going for a double play. They didnt have any chance of getting the out at second but were trying to make something happend. The ball got away from Gomez and went into left field. Shortstop John McCurdy then grabed the ball, on the play while the ball was out into left, Mendez would score. McCurdy then threw to third, and they got Carter out at third. Steve Moss then drove one deep to center, Nelson Cruz made a great running catch near the wall for the third out.

After that inning Murphy would not allow another runner to get to second base saftley for the his final three innings of work. He gave up two singles and struck out three.

Kane County scored one more run in the third inning. With one out Jason Baker singled to center. Nelson Cruz then singeld to left. Brian Stavisky singled to center to allow Baker to score. The inning would end with a double play.

The Cougars put up a crooked number in the sixth inning. Nelson Cruz walked. Brian Stavisky singld to left. Jason Basil then grounded one to the second baseman Crabbie, the good thing for the Cougars was that the ball went through his legs for an error. On the error Cruz would score, and Stavisky went to third. Francis Gomez reached on a fielder's choice. On the play Stavisky scored, with Basil being out at second. Gomez then stole second base. Nick Rogers struck out. Kory Wayment singled to right to score Gomez.

Chris Shank would come in to start the bottom of the sixth inning. On his first pitch thrown in the game, the ball went soaring out of the park faster than it was thrown. Prince Fielder lead off the inning with a long hard shot way over the right center field wall. His antics after the homer would be addressed later in the game. After the homer John Vanden Berg then popped up to second. Jeff Eure singled to left. Shank would get out of the inning with a double play that went around the horn.

In the seventh inning the Cougars would have a chance to score some more runs. Kirk Nordness lead off with a single to the first baseman, when the pitcher wasn't able to cover. John Baker was then hit by a pitch. Nordness then stole third. Nelson Cruz popped one up to the pitcher. The Snappers then brought in another new pitcher, Bo Hart came in. He got Jason Basil to pop up to center to end the inning.

The eighth inning would come and Chris Shank would face Fielder again. Shank hit Fielder on the leg. Both Shank and Cougars manager Webster Garrison were thrown out of the game. Fielder would go down to first. The thing is I dont remeber there being a warning but then I was probly talking when it happend. In the sixth the problem with Fielder was that he stood there at home plate and admired the homer as it left. Cougars first baseman Jason Basil appeared to have some words for him when he got to first after he finally got around to running the bases. After the ejections Manny Rodrigue came in and walked the first batter he faced. He then got Jeff Eure to fly to right to end the inning.

Beloit did put up a fight in the ninth before going down for the third straight time. Mario Mendez lead off with a double to left. Nic Carter then singled back to the pitcher. Josh Murray walked to load the bases. A wild pitch would score Mendez. The Cougars then brought in Jared Burton to pitch. Steve Moss struck out. Callix Crabbie grounded out to first, on the play Carter would score. Mark Ernster lined out to second for the final out of the game.

Notes-What happend to the Beloit faithfull, the little crowd of Cougars fans out yelled and screamed the Beloit crowd. There were only 10 of us and 500 of them.
