Everyone Has A Bad Day Every Now And Then

The Cougars streak of seven wins in a row just couldn't have gone on that much longer. Oh well these things happend maybe tomorrow we'll start another even longer winning streak. Even though this was only the Cougars second loss this season.

Drew Dickinson took the loss for the first time this year, he has two victories also. Drew pitched into he seventh, giving up eight hits and five runs. The big thing is he really seemed to settle down after the Dragons had their one big inning. Dayton scored four of their five runs in the second inning.

The Dragons scored four in the second inning to take the early lead on the Cougars. Brad Correl lead off with a single to right. Mark Schramek then singled to right. Rightfielder Nelson Cruz tried to get Correll at third and the throw went past the third baseman Kory Wayment. On the error Correll would score with schramek getting to third. Justin Davis grounded out to first. Ryan Hanigan singled to right, on the play Schramek would score. Domonique Lewis then hit a rocket over the left cetnerfield wall for a two run homer. After the homer Dickinson settled doen to get Louis Bolivar to ground out to short. Junior Ruiz then grounded one to first to end the inning. After that inning Dickinson retired the next five in a row, without a ball leaving the infield. Hanigan and Lewis singled in the fourth with two outs to break that string. Drew got Bolivar then to ground out to third to end the threat.

The Cougars offense was ready to go after scoring 16 runs yesterday and upping their team batting average to .275 on the trip from .215. In the first inning it looked like it would be more of the same with Wayment and John McCurdy both getting singles. John Baker would strike out. I guess a hit and run had to be on with Wayment not picking up the sign. Wayment and McCurdy both were standing around second base. McCurdy would be retired ont he play for a double play. Nelson Cruz grounded out to third to end the inning.

In the third inning the Cougars would finally put something up on the board. They actually tied up the game in one inning. Francis Gomez singled to center to lead things off. J.P.Schmidt struck out. Kory Wayment singled to center to get Gomez to second. John McCurdy lined one off of the first base bag for a single to get the bases loaded. John Baker walked to allow Gomez to score. Nelson Cruz reached on a fielder's choice with Baker being out at second. On the play Wayment would score to cut the lead in half. Brant Colamarino doubled to left to score both McCurdy and Cruz. Kirk Nordness then grounded out to second to end the inning.

Kory Wayment has continued his hot hitting in this early part of the season today he had two singles in his first two at-bats. He is now 11 for 20 on the road trip. John McCurdy and Brant Colamarino also had two hits apiece. Francis Gomez had three hits and was on base all four times he came to the plate.

The Dragons would score the final run of the game in the seventh inning to go ahead into the lead. With one out Louis Bolivar singled to right, he then stole second. Ruiz then popped up to left for the second out. Kevin Howard walked. Joey Votto doubled to left to score Bolivar. Cougars manager Webster Garrison then took Dickinson out of the game in favor of Jared Burton. Brad Correl grounded out to third to end the inning.

In the ninth inning the Cougars wouldnt go down with out a fight. Jason Basil singled to center to lead things off. He was then pinch run for by Nick Rogers. Francis Gomez singled to left. J.P.Schmidt put down the sacrifice bunt to move the runners over into scoring positon. Kory Wayment then struck out. John Mccurdy would ground out to short to end the game.
