In his first game as a Lansing Lugnut, Carlos Marmol made his presence felt.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, he hit a two run triple and then scored the winning run on a Ronny Cedeno single to lead the Lugnuts to a 4-3 victory over Fort Wayne on a rainy Sunday at Oldsmobile Park.,/l1>,br>
"I got called up to come here and play a roll and I'm glad to be doing it." Marmol said, "I'm ready for anything. I just wanted to get a hit."
The 19 year old native of the Dominican Republic was promoted from extended spring training in Mesa, Arizona on Sunday.
Leftfielder Hector Miliano led off the Lugnuts (9-8) ninth with a single and Buck Coats added a one out walk before both scored on Marmol's triple.
"I knew going into the last inning that I had to get on base somehow to help us win the game." Miliano said, "I enjoyed playing a big role in the win."
Miliano was 3 for 4 and scored two runs. Cedeno finished 3 for 5.
The ninth inning rally came off Fort Wayne's closer Anthony Kozol, who came into the game 8 for 8 on save opportunities this season for the Wizards (10-8).
Yorkin Ferreras (1-2) pitched the final two outs of the ninth and got the win for the Lugnuts.
"You always like to see a rally because those conditions were bad," Lugnut manager Julio Garcia said.
"It's good to see the guys were still battling regardless of the elements."
Starter Angel Guzman pitched seven innings for the Lugnuts, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out two.
In other news, the Cubs released Lugnuts pitcher Jeff Carlsen on Sunday.
