Clinton Herald

Three Clinton Lumberkings pitchers combined to throw a four hit shutout in a 3-0 victory at Burlington Sunday.

The win was Clinton's third in a row after Saturdays's contest was rained out.

Edison Volquez, Craig Frydendall and Matt Farnum were Clinton's hurlers.

Volquez worked 3.1 innings giving up one hit and fanning three. Frydendall (2-1) the winning pitcher, went 1.2 innings and gave up a hit while striking out two. Farnum finished up the game, pitching four innings and giving up two hits while striking out seven.

Clinton opened the scoring with a run in the fourth inning. With one out, Dane Bubela walked, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Ian Kinsler's single to left.

The Lumberkings added a run in the seventh. Andrew Wishy singled, went to second when Emerson Frostad walked, advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a passed ball.

In the eighth Juan Senreiso singled, stole second, went to third on a throwing error and scored on Whishy's sacrifice fly.

The team's will play a twin bill tonight begining at 6pm. Tim Cunningham (0-1, 7.27) of Clinton will face Burlington's Greg Atencio (1-1, 1.35) in the first game. In the nightcap, the Lumberkings will send Jesse Chavez (3-1, 4.40) to the hill to square off against Carlos Rosa (0-3, 5.27)

The teams conclude their series with an 11:35 am game on Tuesday. Clinton has an off day Wednesday.
