Dayton Daily News

The Dayton Dragons (10-12) had already set the franchise record for the longest losing streak in team history at six. Heading into the finale of the four game set with the West Michigan WhiteCaps (10-12), the Dragons had the opportunity to tie the franchise record for consecutive victories, also six. Dayton fell short.

The WhiteCaps took a 2-1 win in a pitcher's duel at Fifth Third Ballpark. The Dragons got out in front early, scoring the games first run for the fourth night in a row. Junior Ruiz doubled into the right field corner and later scored on a Jesse Gutierrez double

West Michigan took the lead in the home half of the third with a two spot off Dragons starter Daylan Childress. The right hander hurt his own cause with three walks in the inning, with two of those runners scoring.

The Dragons had a bases loaded opportunity with one out in the fourth inning but stranded all three runners, Caps' pitcher Matt Coenen was stellar in 7 innings. The southpaw scattered six hits and struck out 10 Dragons while walking just one.
