Nettles scored a fourth run in the fifth after stroking his third straight single. He stole second, too third when the Cedar Rapids catcher dropped a third strike and scored on Sam Ashford's sacrifice fly.

Nettles and John McCowan swatted back to back, two out triples during a two run seventh. McCowan eventually scored when the catcher dropped the ball attempting to nail him at the plate.
