Kane County Cougars at Fort Wayne Wizards

May 17th, 2004

Does this team have to make it interesting in the late innings almost every night. Do they enjoy putting their fans through a few trips to either the fridge or the medicine cabinet depending on your tastes. In tonights game they held on for a one run victory after leading six to nithing going into the sixth inning.

In the first five innings the Cougars would score all six of thier runs. In the first inning they would get one run, Brian Ingram lead it off with a single to left. One out later David Castillo singled to left. Eddie Kim would reach on an error by the shortstop. On the play Everyone would move up a base, to load the bases. Brian Snyder singled to right to score Ingram. The Cougars looked like they would be getting a few more runs since they had the bases loaded and only one out. Dustin Majewski struck out looking for the second out. Kory Wayment would then ground out to second to end the inning.

The next couple of innings would be kinda quiet for the Cougars as they did manage two hits but a double play erased one of them. In the fourth inning they would score two runs. Majewski lead it off with a double to left, he would get to third on a error by the left fielder. One out later, Trevor Brown hit a two run homer to left for his first homer of the season. Luis Perez followed that up with a single to right, he then stole second. Again the Cougars looked to be in position to score some more runs. Ingram grounded out to second, Perez moved to third on the play. Luke Appert then grounded out to second to end the inning.

This time the Cougars would score three times in the fifth inning. Castillo lead off with a walk. Two outs later, Majewski walked. Wayment singled to right to score Castillo. Brown would then single to center to score Majewski. Perez would follow with another single, this one to center to score Wayment. The Wizards then made a pitching change. Ingram would ground out to second to end the inning.

After that the Cougars offense was pretty quiet, except for in the sixth when with one out, Castillo doubled to center, moved to third on a wild pitch. A line out to second, and a pop out to left would quickly end that inning.

Chris Dunwell pitched into the seventh inning, giving up seven hits and three runs. He got out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning. With two outs, Greg Bochy singled to center. Mark McRoberts then singled to center. Colt Morton walked to load the bases. Juan Ciriaco then flew to cetner, Majewski made a nice catch to end the inning. After that it was basically clear sailing untill the sixth inning.

In the sixth the Wizards would score two runs. With one out Jordan Pickens was hit by a pitch. A ground out to second would move Pickens to second. Brian Wahlbrink then hit a two run homer to left. The seventh inning wasn't much better for the Cougars. McRoberts led off with a single to left. One out later Ciriaco grounded to second, McRoberts would advance to second ont he play. With two outs, Peeter Ramos lined one to center, Majewski dove but couldn't make the catch, Ramos would get into second base. McRoberts would score.

In the eigth inning the Cougars would get hit arouns. Dan Fyvie had just come on to pitch for Chirs Dunwell. With one out, Fernando Valenzuela walked. Wahlbrink then singled to center. One out later, McRoberts doubled to left. Wayment dove into the wall trying to make the catch, and came out of it holding his shoulder. On the play Valenzuela and Wahlbrink would score. After the double the Cougars would bring in J.R. Pickens to replace Fyvie. Pickens got Morton to ground out to short to end the inning.
