Brett Groves slammed a two run home run in the first inning and the Burlington Bees used a three run fifth inning to take the lead for good on their way to an 8-6 Class A Midwest League baseball victory over the Clinton Lumberkings Friday night at Alliant Energey Field.
Clinton, led 5-4 after four innings before the Bees scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead for good.
Groves' home run was his first professional roundtripper. He also scored three runs.
James Shanks drew three walks and scored three runs for the Bees.
Kyle Middleton picked up the win to improve to 4-2. In five innings of work, he allowed eight hits and three earned runs while striking out five and walking none.
Jorge Vasquez pitched two perfect innings to earn his second save. He fanned three LumberKings.
The Bees improve to 27-26 and have a winning record for the first time since April 9. The Bees have won four straight games for the third time of this season.
