The South Bend SilverHawks saved their best for last Sunday afternoon.

Faced with a 4-3 deficit heading into the top of the ninth inning the Hawks rallied for four runs and then held on in the bottom of the frame for a 7-5 victory over Wisconsin in Midwest League baseball action.

Scott Hairston's one out double against TimberRattlers' reliever Mike Kesten (1-3) allowed Lino Garcia to come around from second base to even the contest at 4-4.

With the bases loaded and two outs, pinch hitter Bryan Loeb was hit by a pitch, allowng Jarred Ball to cross the plate.

Kevin Brand then followed with a two run single to give South Bend a three run cushion.

Wisconsin touched Corby Medlin for a run in the bottom of the ninth and had the bases loaded with one out.

The right hander though escaped further damage by record at 4-6-3 double play to earn his fifth save.

Clff McMachen (2-1) earned the victory allowing one run on one hit in four innings of relief.

Hairston finished with two hits for the Hawks, who are now 3-8 on their current road trip.

The South Bend SilverHawks scored four times in the top of the ninth as the Wisconsin TimberRattlers bullpen blew a 4-3 lead and Wisconsin lost 7-5 on Sunday at Fox Cities Stadium.

After Wisconsin fell behind 2-0 in the first, Sean Peless hit his ninth home runs of the season in the second to cut the deficit to 2-1. Wisconsin took a 3-2 lead with a pair of runs in the fourth. Alejandro Cadena doubled in a run and Jason VanMeetren, who was called up Saturday, got his first hit with Wisconsin, a run scoring bloop single to right.

South Bend tied the game in the seventh, but Shin Soo Choo's single in the bottom of the inning gave Wisconsin a 4-3 lead.

But in the ninth, Scott Hairston doubled down the left field line off Lanny Patten with two runners on to score one run and tie the game, Patten hit Bryan Loeb with the bases loaded to put the SilverHawks ahead.

After South Bend scored two more runs, the TimberRattlers scored one run in the bottom of the inning to pull to 7-5 and had the bases loaded with one out, but Cadena hit into a double play.
