Kane County Cougars at Clinton Lumberkings

June 2nd, 2004

It really is tough to come back from six runs down after the first two innings, the Cougars tried but weren't able to losing 9-4. Clinton scored four times in the first and twice in the second all off of starter Jose Corchado.

The Cougars would get four of the runs back in the middle of the game. Dustin Majewski would hit a two run homer. Brian Ingram and David Castillo would both drive in runs for the other two. Luis Perez and Majewski both had two hits.

Bad baseball, both mentally and physically contributated to the four runs in the first inning as almost anything that could go wrong did. Adam Bourassa led off with a walk. Micah Furtado then reach on a fielder's choice with Bourassa being out at second. Ian Kinsler then singled down the left field line, Furtado went to third. A wild pitch would move the runners along, with Furtado scoring. Josh Kruezer then walked. Dane Bubelo would ground one to first, first baseman Eddie Kim tried to flip it to Corchado covering the bag, but the throw went over his head. Kinsler and Kruezer would score. Bubela then would reach second on a Corchado balk, and third on a wild pitch. Larry Grayson would strike out for the second out. Andrew Wishey then singled to left to score Bubela for the fourth run.

The second was only a little more bearable, since they scored only two runs. With one out Adam Bourassa singled to left, then stole second. Furtado singled to left, Bourassa would try to score from first and would be thrown out by left fielder Luis Perez. Kinsler then hit one over the head of Perez for a double, Furtado stoped at third. Kruezer hit one off of the base of the wall in center for a triple, both Furtado and Kinsler would score.

With two outs in the fourth Brian Snyder reached on an infield single to second. On the play the second baseman ranged behind the bag, fliped the ball to the short stop who made the throw to first. Snyder beat the play. Majewski then took a pitch to right for a two run homer. Luke Appert led off the fifth inning with a double to left. Chris Tritle then flew out to center. Appert tagged up and went to third. Brian Ingram singled to center to score Appert. Clinton then made a pitching change bring in Joel Kirsten to replace their starter Eddison Volquez. Perez geated him with a single to center. Castillo woul dpop out to short for the second out. Kim then grounded to first to end the inning.

Justin Hatcher led off the fifth for the Kings. He doubled to center. One out later Bourassa singled to center to score Hatcher, Bourassa would get to second on the throw home. Furtado then doubled to center to score Bourassa. The Cougars finally got smart and intentionally walked Kinsler, the leagues leading hitter. Kruezer then poped to first for the second out. Bubela would be caught looking to end the inning.

It would be another inning before the Cougars would score another run. In the seventh inning Tritle led off with a double to center. Two outs later, with Tritle on third, Castillo doubled to center to score Tritle.

Unfortantly in the eighth inning the Cougars pitched to Kinsler with one out and nobody out. He hit a homer that was long gone over the left field fense.
