Even though his batting average was respectable, Dayton Dragons outfielder B.J. Hawes was getting no production.

Through his first 12 games since rejoining the team from extended spring training, Hawes was hitting .267, but with only two RBIs.

Monday night Hawes knocked in two more in a 4-2 Dragons victory over the Beloit Snappers in a Class A Midwest League game played in front of 7,960 fans at Fifth Third Field.,br
It was Dayton's third straight victory over the Snappers after begining the home stand with four defeats to Wisconsin.

"The guys in front of me have been getting on," said Hawes, who was batting eighth in the order in his third tour of duty with the Dragons.

"I tried to stay focused. I got some good pitches and I took some good swings."

Hawes, who also played here the last two seasons, knocked in his first run with a sacrifice fly to center in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie.

The Dragons scored another run in the inning on an error.
In the seventh, Hawes lined a single to center to score the final run and give the Dragons some room they almost needed.

Juan Frias got the victory, not without a little drama. With two on and one out in the eighth he balked in one run. Following a second out, Brad Nelson, the league leader in homers (12) and RBIs (60) came to the plate, Curtus Moak relieved Frias, who got a hearty ovation, and struck out Nelson.

In his previous start, Frias gave up six runs in 5 1/3 innings to Wisconsin on May 29.

Nate Cotton pitched the ninth for his 13th save, but loaded the bases after two were out before inducing Dan Boyd to pop to first.

Hawes got only three chances to hit and made the most of two of them.

"Of course I want to get the RBIs." Hawes said, "It's not all about stats I want to do something for the team."

Dragons manager Donnie Scott says he likes what he's seeing in Hawes.

"He has been a different player," Scott said, "I had him in '99 in the Gulf Coast League, this is the player I remember."

The Dragons took and early 1-0 lead on Chris Williamson's third homer, a line shot off the center field hitter's eye in the second.

Beloit tied the game with back to back Brad Nelson and Tom Carrow doubles in the fourth.

The Dragons took it from there.
