Kane County Cougars at Quad City River Bandits

Game 2

It took till past midnight to complete the double header, in the second game it took twelve innings. The game was tied at one since the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the 12th the Swing would take advantage of an error and finally win this game. Omar Burgos led off with a single, then stole second. Kyle Phillips was then intentionally walked. Dusty Gomon put down a sacrifice to move the runners along. Cougar pitcher J.R. Pickens would throw the ball away while trying to get Gomon. On the error Burgos would score to end the game.

Brad Knox started for the Cougars and pitched well. He went six innings, giving up his only run in the first inning. Brad gave up seven hits and one run. He didn't walk anyone and struck out seven. He really had to work to get out of some jams though. In the fourth inning they Swing would have the bases loaded with one out. Kyle Phillips led off with a single to left. Gomon then was caught looking for the first out. Scott Whitrock singled to third. Mark Zamojc singled to right to load the bases. Paul Rutgers then struck out. Ryan Spataro would pop out ot short to end the inning.

Knox would also have to get out of trouble in the fifth inning. With one out Brock Peterson singled to left. Burgos then singled to center. That made it runners on first and second with one out. Phillips would pop up foul to the catcher for the second out. Gomon lined to short to end the inning. The bases would be loaded again for the Swing in the seventh inning. Dan Fyvie had come on in the start of the inning to replace Knox. Spataro led off with a single to center. Alex Garcia would reach on a fielder's choice, bunt that the third baseman Vasili Spanos would just hold onto. Peterson would strikeout for the first out. Burgos was then hit by a pitch. Fyvie really did a nice job to strikeo ut both Phillips and Gomon to end the inning with the bases loaded.

The Swing started the game off with a run in the first inning off of Knox. Garcia was hit by a pitch, then stole second. Peterson would reach on a single to second on the play Garcia went to third. Burgos struck out. Phillips would ground out to first, on the play Garcia would score.

Kane County's run came in the fourth inning. Trevor Brown led off with a walk. David Harriman then grounded one to third, the ball went through the third baseman's legs, on the play Brown went to third. One out later Nick Rogers hit a liner to left. The ball would get stuck in the padding in the fense for a ground rule double. Brown scored on the play. Luke Appert then grounded out to short. David Castillo would strike out to end the inning.

The Cougars had one more really good chance to score some runs. In the sixth they would leave the bases loaded. Spanos led off with a single to left. Brian Snyder lined out to second. Dustin Majewski then lined out to left for the second out. Brown singled to right, Spanos just made it to third on the play, as the throw almost got the speedy? Spanos. Harriman was then intentionally walked to load the bases. Chris Tritle then came up and was caught looking to end the inning.
