Kane County at Lansing Lugnuts

June 14th, 2004

Jared Trout threw a complete game shutout against the Lansing Lugnuts. He gave up four hits in those nine innings. It was the first nine inning complete game of the year by a Cougars starter. He pitched very well giving the Lugnuts only two chances to score in the game.

Trout gave up a double in the first with two outs. A walk in the second with two outs, he would pick him off to end the inning. In the third, that would be one of only two times that the Lugnuts would get a man to third. With two outs, Robinson Chirinos singled to left. He then stole second, and went to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Tony McQuade walked. Brian Dopirak then grounded out back to Trout to end the inning.

The fourth inning he was perfect. In the fifth he gave up a leadoff double, two outs later he hit Chirinos to put runners on first and third. McQuade would strike out to end the inning. The sixth inning was another perfect inning for Trout. A two out single in the seventh went nowhere. The eighth was perfect, and the ninth the only thing givin up was a one out error. Trout would strike out Alan Rick to end the game.

Jared had a first pitch strike to 20 out of the 34 men he faced. He got ten of them with ground ball outs, and ten of them on fly ball outs. Plus he had six strikeouts.

The Cougars offense would come to life after a lackluster series in Quad City. They would score a run int he first inning, with one out Luke Appert doubled to center. One out later Vasili Spanos singled to center to score Appert. The third inning saw another run go up on the board as Chris Tritle would hit a solo homer to center for his sixth of the season.

Two more runs for the Cougars in the fifth. Trevor Brown led off with a double to right. Two outs later, Appert doubled to right to score Brown. David Castillo would then single to right, Appert came home and scored, as the catcher missed the tag. A couple of pitches later Lugnuts mamager Julio Garcia would get tossed for arguing.

The final two runs of the game came in the sixth. With two outs, Kory Wayment singled to left. Trevor Brown walked. Chris Tritle then hit a triple to center to score both of the runners.

Brown was on base three times today as he had two hits and a walk. He scored twice. Tritle had two hits and a walk. He would drive home three of the Cougars six runs. Brian Snyder didnt get on base for the first time in 36 games. Appert had three hits.
