Grand Rapids, MI-It took just an hour and 49 minutes for the West Michigan WhiteCaps (26-38) to beat the Burlington Bees (21-44) 2-1 Tuesday at Fifth Third ballpark.

The teams combined for just six hits and all fo the scoring came in the first two innings as the WhiteCaps evened the series at a game apiece.

The WhiteCaps got both of their runs in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Bees' starter John Gragg walked Juan Francia and with two outs, Kelly Hunt hit a 3-2 pitch over the wall in left, for a two run home run and a 2-0 WhiteCaps lead.

Gragg (2-5) would not allow another hit until the eighth inning as he pitched his second complete game of the season, but lost his fourth consecutive decison. Gragg's final line read eight innings pitched, two hits, two runs, three walks and six strikeouts.

The Bees answered the two run first with a run in the top of the second. Kila Kaaihue led off with a double and scored on a two out double by Brandon Powell to get the Bees on the board.

WhiteCaps starter Virgil Vasquez (7-3) worked through eight innings and allowed two more hits and struck out six for the win. Frankie DeLaCruz came in for the ninth and struck out two of the three batters he faced for his third save of the season.

Chris Lubanski went 0-4 snapping his hitting streak after seven games. Jeff Barry was 1-3 and reached base on an error. He has hit safely in four straight games and nine of his last 10 games.

The series continues tonight at 6pm. Burlington right hander Chris Goodman (1-6, 5.55) will start against left hander Chris Steinborn (3-6, 4.11) for the WhiteCaps.
