Kane County Cougars at Quad City River Bandits

July 15th, 2004

Somebody please wake the Cougars up, they seemed to be in a haze or teal or what ever color that is the Swing has, today. Quad City won 9-3, the game didnt feel as close as the score seemed.

Jared Trout started and got hammerd by the Swing, he gave up seven hits and six runs in just over three innings. The one thing that really did him in was two errors that lead to half the runs giving up being unearned.

Brock Peterson led off the second inning with a double to right. Kyle Geiger then hit one that went through the legs of third baseman Kory Wayment for the first error of the game for the Cougars. Peterson would end up on third. Mark Zamojc then struck out but strike three was a wild pitch and allowed the runners to move up. Peterson scored and Geiger went to second. One out later Omar Burgos singled to left to score Geiger.

More horror for the Cougars in the third inning as the Swing scored twice, while the Cougars made another error. J.R. Taylor led off with a single to right, he then stole second base. He would get to third on a balk. One out later, Kyle Phillips hit a fly to center, Taylor would tag up and score from third. Peterson followed with a double to center. Geiger hit one to left that Nick Rogers basically droped. Peterson score and Geiger went to second on the error.

This time no error, but the Swing scored twice more in the fourth inning. With one out, Burgos singled to second. Alex Garcia hit one just fair down the third base line for a triple to score Burgos. Taylor then rolled one down the line that Trout picked up and threw to first to try to get him, but the throw would be high and Taylor was safe, Garcia scored on the play. Justin Arneson walked. The Cougars then brought in Manny Rodriguez to replace Jared Trout. Manny did a nice job of getting Phillips to ground into an inning ending double play.

The Cougars would have one good inning in the first four. Dustin Majewski led off the second with a single to left. Wayment followed with another single to left. Trevor Brown followed with yet another single to left. The left fielder, Zamojc had trouble with the ball and would get an error. Majewski scored, Wayment went to third and Brown to second on the error. One out later Rogers lined to left, Zamojc this time made a nice catch. Wayment would tag up and score.

After four inning it was six to two for the Swing, the Cougars had just one more time when they scored and two more when they had chances. In the fifth inning, Brian Ingram led off with a bouncer that hit the lip of the infield and bounced over the first basemans head. Luke Appert would then walk. Vasili Spanos grounded out to the pitcher, both runners moved along. Eddie Kim would do his job and ground out to second, ont he play Ingram scored and Appert moved to third. Majewski then walked. With runners on first and third with two outs, Kory Wayment came up. He reached on a fielder's choice, with Majewksi being out at second.

In the seventh inning the Cougars had their last good chance to score a run. Appert led off with a double down the right field line. Vasili Spanos then walked. Kim would then line out to third. Majewski walked which loaded the bases. Wayment would strike out looking. I though the ball was low and inside. Brown the grounded into a fielder's choice with Majewski being out at second.

Quad City wasnt done scoring runs, and the Cougars werent done making errors. In the fifth with one out Geiger led off with a walk. Zamojc grounded to short for the second out. Scott Whitrock singled to right to score Geiger. Phillips led off the seventh with a liner to left, the ball went through the glove of Rogers in front of the wall for a double. Two outs later, the Cougars made a pitching change, bringin in J.R. Pickens to replace Rodriguez. After two balls, the Cougars decided to intentionally walk Zamojc. Whitrock hit a dribbler to third, Wayment tried to bare hand it and missed,. Phillips would score, and Zamojc went to third with Whitrock going to second. Burgos then hit a grounder that Wayment tried to play off his chest and couldn't, that would go for another error. With the bases loaded and two outs, Alex Garcia came up. Pickens struck him out on four pitches to get out of it.

In the eighth inning Phillips would cap things off with a homer to right field.
