The Lumberkings and the Cougars played a wierd game with just about
everything happening, that could. The good thing was the Cougars
offense finally showed a pulse. The bad thing is that everytime the
offense would do something good, the Kings bats would roar back to tie
the game back up.
For the Lumberkings Josh Spoerl hit for the cycle with a triple in
the third, a sinlge in the sixth, double in the eighth, and a home run
in the ninth. Andrew Beattie had two hits. Chris Van Rossum had two hits.
For the Cougars, Kevin Hooper, Matt Frick, Kelley Washington and
Luis Ugueto all had two hits.
The thing that got the Cougars offense started was the fact that
starting pitcher Scott Dunn was really wild. Dunn pitched into the fifth
inning, giving up three hits, six runs, only four of them were earned.
He walked seven, and struck out three. He also threw five wild pitches
and hit one Cougar.
In an emergancey start for the injured Josh Beckett, Joe Sergent
went three innings and did not look that badly. Marc Newbaugher had a
rough first inning of work then pitched a good second inning, Bryan
Morse pitched two innings and then Hector Henriquez pitched two innings,
the only problem was that after his first inning he got wild.
The scoring started in the first for the Cougars when Chip Ambres
lead it off with a walk. Kevin Hooper also walked, they would advance
to second and third on a wild pitch. Matt Padgett was then hit by a pitch
to load the bases. Matt Frick would walk in Ambres for the first run of the
game, the bases were loaded again. Everyone owuld go up one more bases
anbd Hooper would score on a wild pitch. Dave Callahan hit a liner to
left, and one the play Padgett would score from third.
The Lumberkings would get one run back in the third when with one
out when Chris Van Rossum singled to right, then stole second. One out
later Andrew Beattie singled to center to score Rossum.
The Kings would put a five spot on the board in the fourth when
with one out Ryan Lundquist doubled to left. Josh Spoerl would then
triple to left ot score Lundquist. Francsico Rivera then singled to center
to score Spoerl. Samone Peters would then walk. Chris Van Rossum hit
a three run hoem run onto the deck in leftfield.
The Cougars would come back with three of their own in the fourth
when Kelley Washinton would start it off with a sinlge to third. Kelley
then would steal second. One out later Luis Ugueto would reach on a error
by the thirdbaseman. On a pick off attempt from the catcher to firstbase
the throw went up the first base line and Washington and Ugueto were
at second and third. Washington would score on a wild pitch. Chip Ambres
would ground out to third, on the play Ugueto would score. Kevin Hooper
and Matt Padgett both walked to load the bases. Matt Frick then singled
to left to score Hooper.
The Cougars would score again in the fifth when Scott Goodman walked
On a pick off attempt from the pitcher to first base the throw went into
right field and Goodman would reach third. Two outs later Luis Ugueto
would reach on an infield single to second in which he just beat the
pitcher to the base. Goodman would score on the play.
Another run for the Cougars in the sixth when with two outs Matt
Firck singled to third, stole second. Dave Callahan then walked. Scott
Goodman would single to center to score Frick, Callahn would be out at third
on a throw that went from center to the catcher to third.
In the seventh inning the Cougars owuld score again when Kelley
Washington singled to left, then stole second. On eout later Luis Ugueto
singled to center to score Washington.
With Henriquez in the game for the Cougars in the ninth the Kings
took advantage when Jon Weber lead off the inning with a single, then
advanced to second on a wild pitch. Andrew Beattie then singled to left
to score Weber. He would go to second on a wild pitch. Omar Hurtado then
doubled to left to score Beattie. Mark Burnett hit a sacirfice bunt to
get Hurtado over to third. One out later Josj Spoerl hit a two run home
run that went right over the foul pole in left.
In the bottom of the ninth down by one with two outs Chip Ambres
would walk, then steal both second and third. Kevin Hooper then lined
out to center to end the game.

Notes-Matt Padgett had to be taken out of the game in the fourth
because from what I heard is a twisted ankle?. His replacement in right
field was Dave Callahan who I didn't know could play the outfield, but
I hope that he knew he could, at first base was Matt DeMarco.
