Pitchers ruled the night as all the pitchers involved pitched well. Brad Knox started for the Cougars and pitched well, he only made one mistake and it ulitmatly cost us the game. Only because we couldnt hit there pitching.

West Michigan started Chris Steinborn, he pitched well and got out of some jams throughout his six innings of work. In the first inning, Brian Ingram led off with a single to left. Luke Appert moved him to second on a ground out. One out later, Dan Putnam walked. David Castillo then poped up to second to end the inning. In the third inning, Nick Rogers reached on an error. Ingram then reached on a fielder's choice, with Rogers out at second. Appert would hit into an inning ending double play.

Heartbreak in the fourth and fifth as the Cougars just couldn't score with a runner on third. In the fourth, Spanos led off with a single to left. Putnam then singled to center. Runners on first and second and no outs, Castillo hits into a double play. Eddie Kim then grounded out to second to end the inning. In the fifth inning, with two outs. Nick Rogers walked, and would steal second. Ingram beat a throw to first on a little first to pitcher grounder. Unfortunatly Rogers would be rounding third and stop, then try to score and be out with no problem.

Brad Knox pitched very well. In the first with one out Juan Llamas doubled to right. A wild pitch would move him to third. Knox struck out Danilo Sanchez and get Kelly Hunt to pop out to center to end the inning. In the second inning with one out, Garth McKinney singled to left. One out later, Jason Knoedler walked. Runners on first and second and two outs, Eric Rodland grounded out to second to end the inning.

In the sixth, Knox got a double play to get out of a runner on first due to an error. Knox got eight in a row between the third and the sixth.

The Cougars would score first. Appert hit his third homer of the playoffs, a solo shot leading off the sixth to right. In the next half inning the Whitecaps would come back and take the lead. Kody Kirkland led off with a single to center. Two outs later, Knoedler took a pitch to right center for a two run homer.

After the homer, Justin Crowder came on to get two outs, then J.R. Pickens finished off the final five out of the game. The Cougars would get two one out walks. One in the seventh and one in the ninth but each time the next two hitters would strike out to end the inning.

The series is tied at one. Tomorrow, Jordan Tata goes for the Caps. In the playoffs he is 1-0 with a 1.29 era. He pitched seven innings, giving up three hits and two earned runs. One earned run. He walked three and struck out 6. In that game opponents hit .130 against him. For the Cougars Dallas Braden goes. He is 1-0 with a 2.57 era. In his seven innings he gave up seven hits, and two runs. One home and seven strikeouts. Opponents hit 269 off of him. Games three, four and five are in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
