The West Michigan WhiteCaps capsized the Clinton Lumberkings 2-0 in the first game of a four game series Friday night.
Clinton pitchers Brian Mattoon and John Danks combined on a five hitter. Mattoon (2-1) was the tough luck loser.
The only hit allowwed in his five innings was a solo homer by West Michigan's Garth McKinney in the fifth. Mattoon, who boasts a 2.08 ERA struck out three and walked just one.
Danks allowed a run on four hits over three innings. He struck out four and did not issue a walk. He also owns a sparkling ERA of 2.11
The WhiteCaps other run came in the eighth.
Ian Kinsler led the L-Kings at the plate, going 2 for 4 with yet another double, his 19th of the season. He raised his batting average to .385.
Clinton out hit West Michigan 6-5.
Virgil Vasquez (3-2) got the win with seven shutout innings, lowering his ERA to 4.98. Jermy Rodriguez, Kenon ROnz and Chris Homer combined for two innings of shuout relief. Homer worked the ninth for his fifth save, despit walking two Lumberkings.
